Ever met those individuals who were born to host parties? You know, the kind of people who remember to dot every “i” and cross every “t”? Well, I’m not of them. If you’re in the same boat, take heart: I’ve listed a few important tips for planning a Super Bowl party, so you can throw the most talked-about party of the neighborhood this year.
1) Use Online Invitations – It’s a Super Bowl party—there’s no need to send cutesy invitations via snail mail. Websites like Evite and pingg feature themed invitations for a Super Bowl party that are just as ‘cute.’ Remember: the key to football party planning is to cut down on stress wherever possible—guests will never know the difference.
2) Stick to Beer & Wine – Fancy margaritas and fruity cocktails that reflect your team’s colors may seem like a good idea, but let’s get real: it’s over the top. You can’t go wrong with beer and wine, especially at a Super Bowl party. Serve both domestic and imported beers, as well as red and white wine. It’s easier, cheaper and creates less mess (and stress).
3) Make Snacks in Advance – First, you need a game plan. Determine what you will serve at your get-together, and don’t forget to keep it simple. Stick with crowd pleasers such as cheese dip, sub sandwiches, chicken wings and pizza. Snacks like hot spreads and dips can be made ahead of time (up to two days in advance) and refrigerated until game day. This is a huge time saver.
4) Don’t Be Afraid to Use Plastic – Seriously, plastic tableware is the best invention since sliced bread—take advantage of it. There should be no reason to use your dishwasher. In fact, make it your goal to avoid washing dishes all night. If you’re an environmentally friendly person like me, rinse off all plastic tableware and recycle. Mother Nature would approve.
5) Get the Guests Involved – Make the clean-up process even simpler by setting out trash bags in designated areas, as well as paper towels and sanitizing wipes to encourage guests to clean up after themselves. Leave a Sharpie by the plastic cups so guests can write their names on them, and simplify your Super Bowl party even more by making it a potluck and a BYOB to cut down on cost. Most guests just appreciate having a place to watch the game with friends and family—there are no expectations except to win (and yes, that’s out of your control).
When hosting a Super Bowl party, football party planning is necessary. Stress, on the other hand, is not. Keep it carefree and fun—that’s what it’s all about!
