When I have friends over I like being able to serve them and their children a yummy meal. So many kids seem to have food allergies these days so it can be difficult to find proper recipes for them. The new cookbook from Kiwi named Allergy-Friendly Food for Families addresses these concerns of parents. The book has options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks and party ideas. It empowers parents to be able to create safe foods that are both delicious and nutritious for their family and their guests.
The Allergy-Friendly Food for Families cookbook focus on the five most common allergies. They are gluten, dairy, nuts, eggs and soy. Every recipe in their book is clearly marked as to what allergies it covers through a color tabbing system on each page. Many of the recipes cover all 5 allergies. Kiwi also recommends using organic ingredients whenever possible in their recipes.
Many of the food sensitivities children have are outgrown. 85% of children will outgrow their allergy to milk and eggs and almost all will outgrow their sensitivity to wheat and soy. Nuts and shellfish on the other hand are rarely outgrown. I have many friends who have children with sensitivities or are adults with allergies. The Allergy-Friendly Food for Families cookbook by Kiwi is an extremely valuable tool for me to be able to say yes you can have that golden gluten-free cupcake with Fudgy Frosting that is found on page 182 of the book or some of the amazing giant cookie cake found on page 189.
None of my children have allergies. The necessity for allergy free living is not necessary for my family but that doesn’t mean that there are not a ton of delicious recipes in the book. I want to try the Lentil Burgers that say they are similar to Falafel and the Sweet potato gnocchi with lentils. There is also a really nice sweet summer corn salad that anyone would go back for seconds for. I am going to be sharing my book with my sister whose son has a wheat allergy as well as my friend whose mother has Celiac’s disease.
The purchase of the Allergy-Friendly Food for Families cookbook entitles you to a single one-year (six issue) subscription to Kiwi magazine. You can find it at amazon.com for just 15.50. If you or someone you know suffers from food allergies go out and get them this book. It can be a lifesaver for a mom who is just finding out their child has a food allergy/sensitivity and it will for sure be appreciated.
