I’ve been an Arby’s fan since I was a little girl. We went there often because it was different than the typical burger joint. A Jr. Roast Beef and Cheddar was always my order, with a side of curly fries of course. Not much has changed over the years and now that I’m a mom I take Jake out to Arby’s for the same reason my parents took me, it’s a unique meal. Arby’s certainly meets the unique sandwich challenge with its latest sandwich inductee the Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Roast Beef Sandwiches.
King’s Hawaiian Bread is always special. It has a sweet flavor that goes well with just about anything. We typically use is as a bowl for bread dip, or better yet spinach dip. It never occurred to me to use it as a bun for roast beef. Arby’s combines its specialty roast beef with King’s Hawaiian Rolls in two different ways, the regular and the Swiss. Both uses 1/3 more roast beef than their other sandwiches but the Swiss includes a slice of Swiss cheese, Pickles and creamy Dijon mustard dressing. The new flavor is being called “Roast Beef Utopia” and is only available for a limited time.
I took two teenage boys with me to try the Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Roast Beef Sandwiches. If anyone can bust the myth of a large sandwich that is sure to fill you up, it’s a teenage boy. The sandwiches are huge, almost to the point that you take home leftovers. The boys were able to finish their entire meal, but both agreed that they would not need to eat again until dinner. The combination of Arby’s Signature Roast Beef and King’s Hawaiian Rolls was undoubtedly one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever tasted. I can’t believe I never thought of combining these things at home. I liked the Swiss sandwich better, mostly because I enjoy Swiss cheese and Dijon mustard. I did add some Arby’s sauce to the regular sandwich to give it a little kick, but surprisingly it really didn’t need it. Something about the Hawaiian bread I think, it wasn’t dry at all.
