My husband comes from Scottish blood. He loves Sir Sean Connery and Whiskey and his absolute favorite character in the world is Scrooge McDuck. We have a lot of Scrooge McDuck treasures in our home. I won’t let him wear a kilt but if I did I’m sure he’d love that too. Our eyes lit up and our hearts bled plaid when we heard that The Epcot Food and Wine Festival Welcomes Scotland: Land Of Food And Drink 2013. Epcot already has so many delicious and adventurous foods in their many countries that an addition such as Scotland was a long time coming and welcomed with open arms.

To welcome this brand new country to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Chase® and the Official VisitScotland Tourism Board threw a huge party which included Merida and Queen Elinor, beautiful Scottish dancers and many more. We dined on my new favorite food in the world called Chicken in the Heather which includes Chicken with the skin and some heather honey and spices rubbed beneath. Delicious. Of course there was Haggis and I gave it a try and no I was not a fan. Rumbledethumps which are potatoes and cabbage were a big hit at our table as well. These are tried and true Scottish meals and I was happy to taste my way through the country so meaningful to my husband. This is only a few items on the menu at this event, there were about 15 things we could try and let me tell you, if I tried Haggis I can promise you I tried everything else as well.
Scotland is also incredibly excited to welcome three types of people into their country next year for the Homecoming Scotland 2014 event. Group #1 is anyone with Scottish blood, Group #2 is anyone who knows someone with Scottish blood and group #3 is EVERYONE ELSE! So consider booking a vacation to Scotland next year to participate. You may think it is too far to travel, but it is actually not too far at all. The ocean is what throws people off, but the ocean won’t hurt you. Other delicious foods we tried while at Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival were Lemongrass Chicken Curry with Coconut and Jasmine Rice in Singapore. I could have had an entire plate of this and filled up for the day. The Spicy Hand Roll with tuna and salmon with chili pepper, soy sauce and sesame oil topped with Kazan Volcano sauce will make you think you’ve died and gone to heaven. A spicy heaven, but heaven none the less. My husband can’t leave Food and Wine without a funnel cake. I explain to him that they always have funnel cakes but we only get one at Food and Wine. The amusing thing is while we walk around with said funnel cake people are always asking “Where did you get that funnel cake?”.
Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival is a must do each and every year at Walt Disney World. Be sure and see a concert at the American Pavilion, take a cooking class or experience a wine tasting. The possibilities are endless. I recommend going on a Monday, which is the least busy day for the parks. Purchase a gift card which you can wear around your wrist, it makes paying so much quicker. Bring anti-bacterial hand gel or baby wipes or something of that sort because you might get messy and you might not want to keep going into the bathroom. Be patient, the lines can be long and they don’t move as fast as you’d like them to. Bring a friend and make it fun. Wear sunscreen or a hat to cover your face, don’t get burned. And of course, come hungry! This event runs until November 11th every day all day at Epcot at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl. Say a special thanks to Chase® this year as they are the official sponsor. Click HERE to learn more and enjoy!
