I received the Boa’s in a size 3 for Karolyn. The Boa will have your little girl ready for any special occasion when she pairs them with any number of dresses in her wardrobe. The shoes are an easy slip-on design and have a smooth fabric upper with a fun modern floral embellishment on the front. The 3 flowers are then embellished in the center of each flower with 3 crystals to add extra sparkle. The shoes have a 1 ½ inch heel making it just enough for your girl to feel fancy but not too high were you have to worry about them crashing and burning. I really love how on the heel there is an exterior mirror finish that girls will go crazy for. The bottom of the shoe is a durable rubber sole keeping your little girl safe and grounded.

I found the shoes to be very well made. Structurally they were made just as good as you would expect from a name like Stuart Weitzman. The floral embellishments were secure and the shoes fit Karolyn’s feet beautifully. Karolyn loves these shoes and even keeps them in the box. I think that these shoes would make the perfect flower girl shoes or confirmation shoes for a little girl. They really scream out “special day”.

The only downsize to the shoes is they are white fabric so you just need to be careful which day you choose to wear them. A wet day would probably not be the best choice. We reserve them for church currently.

I recently had the pleasure of riding the new Test Track at Epcot Disney which is sponsored by Chevrolet.  This ride closed back in April 2012 along with its name “GM Test Track”.  The new ride sports a new title, “Test Track Presented by Chevrolet” or just “Test Track” if you prefer.  This completely redesigned version opened up on December 6, 2012.  After hearing about this ride and the high speeds it boasts, I knew I had to try it, being a self-proclaimed extreme ride junkie.

After standing in a short line (Fast Passes are magical!), Lee & I were ushered into a design studio of sorts, where each group gets to design their very own car.  You had every choice in your car including the design, the horse power, manageability, responsiveness and even the tires. Everyone was given about 5 minutes to complete the creation of their car and then it was all saved on a plastic card.  When we made it to our “SIM Car”, us and our fellow passengers swiped our cards upon entering.  We strapped on our seat belts and I held on tight, not knowing what to expect next.

The course is designed to test your personalized car in different situations, to see how it responds and handles.  We zoomed through rocky terrain and faced some unsuspected obstacles we had to dodge, made it through dodgy weather and took sharp curves like a champ.  At the tail end of this simulation was a straightaway that hit a speed of almost 60 mph.  At the very end, the charts show you how well your car performed and whose design scored the most points of the passengers in your car.

After the ride is over though, your experience continues!  Using the design card you still have, you’re able to make a short commercial about your design and send it off to friends.  You can also race others and challenge your design over a similar, but smaller scale testing area.  Finally, there is a great photo op with a featured Chevrolet car or your own car against a background of your own choosing.

Though this ride is fast and has sharp turns and quick stops, it is family friendly and is an attraction everyone can participate in.  Lee, who pretty much needs smelling salts after just looking at a roller coaster, is able to handle this ride and even offered to go again.  This is probably one of my favorites in the park simply because it is so interactive.  I will definitely be in line for this again the next time I visit Epcot! https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/epcot/test-track/

Summer is finally hitting the Midwest. The rains are subsiding and the temperature is rising and that means it’s time for my annual hunt for the perfect summer sandal. The size and fit was just the beginning with LAMO shoes. The real pleasure in these sandals is the comfort. I was really happy that they fit, but better that they felt like my feet were in a cloud. These sandals are the closest thing to going bare foot that I think you can get. The sheepskin is super soft and comfortable that when I got home I forgot to take them off. I was so impressed with the comfort that I completely overlooked that they were also trendy and stylish. For once I forgot about my Hobbit feet and felt relaxed and comfortable.

Season 1 of I’m Having Their Baby introduced us to many women of all ages and races who found themselves pregnant at an inopportune time. From the moment they found out they were carrying life inside their womb they struggled with how they would handle that child’s future. Although each mother would most like to raise their flesh and blood on their own that wasn’t always going to be the best choice for the baby. Therefore at times they chose adoption so that another couple could experience parenthood.

Oxygen created a web series “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Baby Vivienne” that is going to follow up with some of the families from Season 1. We’ll find out not only how the women who gave up their babies are doing but how the new families are doing too. My favorite episode from last season was episode 4, Brandalynn and Mercedes. Both of these women struggled hard about giving their baby up for adoption even though they really liked the families they chose as the forever parents.

Mercedes talks about knowing that even though she has agreed to give away her daughter to an amazing family; there is a difference between saying something and doing something. Her boyfriend’s family is quite concerned about the aftermath of the adoption and the emotions that are going to erupt and how it might affect Mercedes and Mikey’s relationship. Enough so that they call a family meeting and really talk through how important it is that they go through with the adoption, and how important it is that everyone talk about their feelings. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for the couple.

Brandalynn is dealing with an unsupportive mother. Pam doesn’t want Brandalynn to give up her daughter. Brandalynn already has one small child that they raise together and Pam believes that God gave this baby to them and they’ll raise this baby together as well. This creates a spiritual and emotional struggle for Brandalynn. We find out Pam almost gave Brandalynn up for adoption and it was very painful for her, she doesn’t want her daughter experiencing that pain as well.

Once Brandalynn gives birth to Sydney and she is handed off to Kim you can see how emotional it is for everyone. Kim and Brian get to experience the “first” moments as Brandalynn sits off to the side. When they hand her over to Brandalynn you can see the fear in their eyes, fearing she’ll want to keep Sydney. This must be the most terrifying feeling. But Brandalynn relinquishes her rights and says they’ll see her later, this will be an adoption where they may meet up again. Kim and Brian are so happy to complete their family. In the end we see that they see one another a lot and everyone involved is right where they should be. Brandalynn has a good job and has moved out of her mother’s house to live with Asher. Meanwhile Kim and Brian are floating on Cloud 9 with baby Sydney.

Mercedes and Mikey’s labor is a bit scarier, as Mercedes has a fever during the hard part. When Vivienne is born Pamela and Richard are not the first to hold her. Mercedes and Mikey go first and get very sad about the situation of handing her off. Second thoughts come flooding in. But in the long run they signed the papers and little Vivienne went home with her forever family and will see Mercedes and Mikey sometime in the future. In the end we find out that they also see each other a lot and Mercedes knows she made the right choice.

But what has happened since those small follow ups? Is Brandalynn doing okay without her mom’s constant help? Are Mercedes and Mikey still together? How are the babies doing with their forever families? All of these questions will be answered in the “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Baby” web series. I saw The Great Gatsby this past Friday night and while I won’t do a full on review I will tell you I found it to be splendid. I realize many people loathe the great American novel but I happen to love it. Maybe because it’s rather sad like myself. The main characters are pretty unlikeable and I see why some people would find fault in such a work. But Daisy and Gatsby’s love draws me in, much like that of Heathcliff and Cathy. Another couple whose only redeeming quality is their love for one another.

Daisy is quite a pathetic soul. She’s married to Tom, a cheating fool from old money who swept her off her feet one day and carried her over the threshold to East Egg. However her love always remained with J Gatsby, the man who really piqued her interest and took everything there was for her to give. Now she is miserable and mopey and doesn’t really know what to do with herself.

Then of course there is J Gatsby. He lost Daisy to Tom and decided to work his way up the new money ladder so he could buy Daisy’s love back. Everything he has ever done has been for her. However when he finds her again his plan doesn’t work the way he would have hoped. Because Daisy, being Daisy, isn’t as predictable as J Gatsby had expected. Or maybe she is predictable and he couldn’t see it because of his blinding love.

Either way I recommend you see the movie. Sure, it is different from the book. Yes, they have hip hop music playing. But why is that so bad? F. Scott Fitzgerald even talked about how when he wrote the book he talks about jazz which was quite a taboo at the time. So now we are trying to introduce this great work to a new generation and using hip hop music with jazz elements and people are going berserk? I’m just confused. The music makes the movie just perfect. Go see and you’ll understand. Of course Baz Luhrmann ensured the set design and costumes were enough to make your ticket price well worth it. If you were a Moulin Rouge fan you’ll see many similarities between the two movies.

I wanted to post this song Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey for everyone to listen to. It’s known as Daisy’s song for Gatsby. It brings tears to my eyes it’s simply so beautiful. I just like to share these things with my readers when I’m moved this much. Her voice is haunting. I hope it moves you as well.

I have had the program for about 5 weeks now and I have to say these are fast and furious. I love how you can constantly up the ante on your workout with the use of the resistance band. Just taking a step back 6 inches can make a big difference when pulling back the bands. My favorite workout in the 10 Minute Trainer program is by far the Abs workout. It targets every muscle group and the sequence of 20 exercises in just 10 minutes is great. I also really like the Yoga Flex. My back had good and bad days and being able to stretch for those 10 minutes really can make the difference for me.

The 10 minute trainer program is available through the Beachbody website or through a Team Beachbody Coach. The basic kit I received is 2 payments of $39.95 plus s&h. Too much sugar!!! That’s what I said when I followed the suggested amount of sugar on the bag of Quaker Perfect Portions Maple Oatmeal. This little bag is quite impressive. It has no sugar added so that you can sweeten it yourself. They simply give you a suggestion on how much to add and you can go from there. As I mentioned it was a bit much, but I’m not a sweets person so it made perfect sense that I would find 4 teaspoons to 1/2 cup of oats to be a bit much. I choose to use the microwave to heat my oatmeal because when I try hot water I just think it feels grainy when I’m finished and no one likes grainy tasting oats.

Kohl’s is one of my favorite stores and I’ve told you this in the past how much money I can save by using coupons at Kohl’s. This Mother’s Day I was given a $100 gift certificate and sent on a mission to purchase gifts for my Mom and Mother in Law. The only catch was to stay within that $100. Now both of these women in my life are very big martyrs. “Don’t worry about me.” ” I don’t need anything.” That is what I hear when they are asked what gifts they want for an occasion. But I like to treat them here and there, especially on a Holiday especially for made for them so I wasn’t taking no for an answer. I allotted them both $50 and found two $10 off any purchase coupons and was ready to roll. Let me show you how I shopped Kohl’s Mother’s Day Savings!

My mom decided that she’d like to go for some pots and pans. Apparently she needed a new set of skillets to be exact. She assumed this would take up her entire amount of money so she had settled on some very nice Bobby Flay Stainless Steel Skillets. They were originally $69.99 on sale for $39.99 and keep in mind I had that coupon for $10 off so that left us at just $30 so I had $20 left to spend on my mother. She decided we should check out the knives and she told me she need a paring knife and a serrated knife. I found, hidden amongst some random items in a corner, a set from Cuisinart marked with a sticker that said “Limited Quantity” but they had no visible price. My mom, because this is just the type of person she is, decided they were probably too expensive and we should just put them back. Simply too nice, it would never be in our price range, nope, just set them back where I found them. I made it clear we were at least going to scan them at one of the price scan machines and so we did. They rang up for $12.49 originally $24.99. That means I spent about $42.50 on my mom without tax. I saved about $52.50.

As for my Mother in Law she had two things on her list. She really wanted an bracelet for her ankle, otherwise known as an anklet. However she knew it might be expensive and wasn’t sure how that would work so she said that wasn’t a must have. Her other big request was new beach towels. She has a fancy pool in her backyard and wanted some pretty towels to use when guests come over. We were lucky because Kohl’s was having a sale on big fluffy beach towels. Those that were usually $29.99 were selling for $14.99. I chose my favorite print, a nice fish design and purchased 3 for her. I was then able to buy her a lovely anklet that was a nice mature design I knew she’d love. It was originally $35 on sale for $9.99. Let us not forget I had another $10 off so technically that was free. This brought me to a grand total of $44.96 for my Mother in Law. I saved about $80 on that purchase. Sweet deal.

I’ve already presented them with their gifts so that I could get some pictures early and they are thrilled. Well, as you read above my mom came along for the shopping trip so this was no surprise. I’m just really grateful that Kohl’s gave me the ability to treat my Mother’s to such nice gifts this Holiday. The Rosen Shingle Creek Resort and Hotel in Orlando, FL is what I would call a luxury conference hotel. First of all it is huge, if my kids went on a treasure hunt it could have lasted the entire trip. Simply exploring the resort and grounds was entertaining because Harris Rosen, founder and President of Rosen brands, made sure there is always something to see. I’m not going to give away all the secrets of course, you’ll have to come visit yourself, but you won’t be disappointed.

We were treated to an Executive Suite with a main room and a bedroom with two Queen beds. The main room was huge and included a Murphy bed, a sitting area with couches and chairs all of which were comfortable, a wet bar with microwave and mini fridge and a dining room table. We had two bathrooms as well so the kids had their own and didn’t mess ours up with yucky kids toothpaste all over the sink and other ways little boys can wreck a bathroom. Of course both rooms had a large television and areas to work so no one ever needed to overlap anyone else. Everything about the suite was luxurious from the linens to the drapery. Again, Harris Rosen knows how to take care of his guests.

Of course my children wanted to run to the arcade the moment we arrived in the resort. It’s much like any arcade you’ll find in a hotel but worth an hour of fun each day you visit. They have a few pinball machines, air hockey, a Terminator shooting game that was usually being used by someone’s dad, old fashion games like Galaga and some newer riding games like a motorcycle you can climb on and watch the screen as you ride on a collision course of destruction. Oh and of course we can’t forget about the claw games where you can win a ball or stuffed animal. Tim and the boys spent at least 5 hours of our 2 day trip inside the arcade spending money and laughing together. It was a true father/son bonding experience.

Like with any resort the swimming pools were a can’t miss experience and they have 4 different ones that fit your families every need. My first piece of advice is to get there early because the chairs get scooped really fast which is what happened to us. We thought we’d take our time and come out at about 11:30 and couldn’t find a place to sit. So now we know for the future. Luckily something opened up so we were able to enjoy our day and have a place to relax. We chose to hang out at the zero entry family pool which is the type that reminds you of the beach because you don’t have to climb down into it. You simply walk in and the water gets deeper and deeper. The water was perfect temperature wise and we were perfectly comfortable.

There are three other pool for all your swimming needs. They have a lap pool if you are the type that likes to get your exercise in the water. There is a special kiddie pool for tiny tots that is only about a foot or so deep which I used to love for my little one. And of course there is a quiet pool for adults that children are discouraged from entering. This is always a nice break from the chaos that children, as charming as they are, can bring. Sometimes the truth of the matter is people need some time to themselves kids free.

The best part about the pool though is the DJ. They help you really relax and enjoy the atmosphere with the music they play. And you don’t have to worry about your children hearing bad lyrics because they won’t play songs with inappropriate words, or they will remove them. At least they did the day we were visiting. My son requested Thrif Shop and they refused to play it. Yes, give me the Mother of the Year award right now. They’ll play an array of music as well from Top 40 to Country. Make sure and wear sunblock because the sun will reflect off the pool and you might burn.

The one thing I’d recommend Rosen Shingle Creek consider is putting in a water slide and adding a few lifeguards. I think this would make the pool and the hotel come across much more family friendly. In the grand scheme of things it is a convention center hotel, however many families visit during conventions and having a few more kid friendly things such as a water slide and maybe a rock wall or playground would appeal to them. Also a treasure hunt like I mentioned at the top of this review would go a long way. Upon check in a map could be offered to the child prompting them to find a list of hidden items around the entire resort. This way Mom and Dad also get a chance to see the entire grounds. They could call it The Allport Treasure Hunt. Okay I guess I’m getting ahead of myself.

Overall this hotel is one of the most beautiful in Central Florida. The exterior kind of reminds you of Atlantis, the interior reminds you more of Downton Abbey (with a Floridian kick) with that heavy textile lap of luxury feel. Nothing was spared in the making of the resort but it isn’t intimidating. You don’t feel like your kids can’t be kids and that is very important.

I have so much more to talk about. For instance I ate at a few of the Rosen Shingle Creek restaurants and one of them was by far one of my new Orlando area favorites. I also experienced a Hot Stone Massage called a Native Creek Stone Massage which was out of this world. However I’m saving these things for separate reviews. Keep an eye out for those.

We all know the truly fascinating history of the Titanic. To me, it’s like a fairy tale, just for those few days and frozen in time.  I always imagine what it would have been like to be a passenger and experience the upmost of luxury and having the honor of sailing on Titanic’s maiden voyage. The movie brings that romanticism to life and most of us love to watch it over and over (until the ship sinks, at least!). I’ve visited Titanic The Experience a few times before, experiencing one of their eye-opening exhibition tours and then again during the fall last year when they would host nightly ghost tours of the facility.  Each was unique, stimulating and educational in its own way.  This time, though, I am so thrilled (I mean it, I LOVE Titanic and everything associated) to be attending the Orlando, FL A Titanic Experience for Mother’s Day Brunch.

This experience will bring it home for me, even more than the movie and previous tours.  At this special brunch, we will get to experience what it may have been like to dine for breakfast in first class along with food that they most likely ate as well.  This buffet style menu will include eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and I’m sure much more.  Along with this lavish breakfast, we will experience live entertainment from previous passengers and crew members whom we are very familiar with including The Unsinkable Margaret “Molly” Brown, Captain E.J. Smith (he’s my favorite!) and more.  I hear we’ll also be able, and encouraged, to sing and dance along with them.

The best thing about this event for me, though, will be the fact that I get to enjoy it all with my daughter as we celebrate Mother’s Day together. Titanic is something we actually share a huge interest in, which is very rare at her age (12) when everything Mom likes is just so un-cool.  It will also be a memorable one that we’ll always talk about even 20 years from now.  I think it’s admirable for Titanic The Experience to honor such a sacred day for many.

The object of the game is to bounce 3 bird balls featuring Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and Han Solo and try to knock down as many pigs as possible while also trying to land inside the cockpit to score points. The villainous pig characters include Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt, Boba Fett and a Storm Trooper. Players can also unlock ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS in-app content with an included special code. The game retails for $19.99 and is for1-2 players ages 8 & up. I think with a little help though younger kids would have just as much fun playing with the game.

You can also take the fun outside with the ANGRY BIRDSTM STAR WARS® FOAM FLYERS. The Foal Flyers are a 3.5 inch soft foam ball of an iconic character from the STAR WARS saga. The characters include Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper. They are sold separately and retail for $9.99.
We received an ANGRY BIRDS STAR WARS FOAM FLYER to check out as well. Ours was one of my favorite characters Chewbacca. My sons love to toss the ball back and forth and the ball seems to be fairly durable so far. I couldn’t even tell you where it is right now because they have been playing with it every days since we got it. I do have to mention to keep it away from dogs. It is similar in size, shape and softness of some dog toys on the market and you don’t want it being destroyed by Fido and having a very upset child on your hands. Luckily my dog is old so she could care less about the ball they are tossing back in forth in the house.
