The people you see below are my credulous co-workers. They have been unknowingly pulled into a taste test for the new Hershey’s Simple Pleasures chocolates which have 30 percent less fat than the average leading milk chocolates. My plan was simple, I’d give the guys a choice between the Milk Chocolate with Chocolate Creme, Dark Chocolate with Chocolate Creme and Milk Chocolate with Vanilla Creme. However I would not mention the fact that they were in any way a low fat treat. I would then analyze whether they seemed to enjoy the chocolate or the taste seemed to bother them in any way. Then and only then could we know the truth behind whether Hershey’s Simple Pleasures really were, pleasureful.
First I encountered Robert. Robert’s one of the nicest guys in the office, always happy to see you and inquire about your day. He’s also known for being pretty easy going about food. He’ll eat just about anything we bring into the office. Robert’s not shy about his sweet tooth and was happy to assist even when I asked if I could take his picture. As far as Robert was concerned it was a small price to pay. He chose a Milk Chocolate with Vanilla Creme. On his first bite I could tell by his happy eyes he found no difference in the chocolate’s taste. Robert wasn’t shy about asking for seconds. I left him a few pieces and was off to find another test subject.
Moving on I cornered Darin. He’s our resident shy guy. He doesn’t talk much and in general I feel I’m bothering him if I as much as say hello while walking by. I do my best to keep my distance. However he saw chocolate and was willing to give me a moment of his time. Darin chose the Milk Chocolate with Chocolate Creme and based on the picture above you can tell he enjoyed it. I laughed while taking his picture and didn’t make him ask for seconds, I left him a few as thanks for being a good sport and to avoid the awkward I moved along as quickly as possible. It worked for both of us.
Lastly I hit up Franco who had been impatiently waiting the delivery of his very first child for days. There was a bit of strain showing on his face and I figured he could use some delicious Hershey’s Simple Pleasures chocolates. I offered him some Dark Chocolate with Milk Chocolate Creme and he ate it without much question. Chocolate makes everything better and I think it probably relaxed him a bit. Men carry stress too you know. Although he didn’t ask for seconds I knew he liked it but had more pressing matters at hand. When you’re waiting for a bomb to drop you must always be on guard, unfortunately for Franco his bomb waited another week. He could have enjoyed a lot more chocolate.
One thing none of these men mentioned was a difference in taste regarding the lower fat content of the chocolate. Hershey’s wanted us to mention Sweet Independence and the ability to eat chocolate and not feel guilty about it this Summer. I decided I didn’t really want to take that route but instead switched it up a bit. I will say that all 3 of these gentlemen are fit and don’t need to lose any weight. But if they did they could still enjoy these Hershey’s Simple Pleasures with 30% less guilt than the normal treat.
The results are in folks, Hershey’s Simple Pleasures are equally as delish as the other leading brands. Just ask Robert, Darin and Franco!
