Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor is a wonderful new children’s book series created by Lori Jordan-Rice a former elementary teacher from Dallas, Texas. Jordan was disappointed with the historical illiteracy rate amongst children so had the idea in college to write her own children’s historical book series. With her 3rd son turning three she decided to put her love for writing to work to create a book series aimed at kids 6-12.
Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor is about a young boy named Tyler Thompson based loosely on her oldest son. Tyler is shy and he hates school. He doesn’t really have any friends and often retreats to the back of the room until one day he finds a trapdoor under his desk. This leads him to a mysterious basement full of old books and a magical dog guarding the books named Barnabas Bailey. With the
help of Barnabas as his guide and the books, Tyler can travel back into time to learn about the past up close and personal.
The series of books continues in her second book Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor: The Perseverance of Christopher Columbus. In this book Tyler explores none other than Christopher Columbus whom he is very nervous about writing an oral report on and also about trying out for the basketball team.
