I'm Having Their Baby, adoption show, oxygen network
Season 1 of I’m Having Their Baby introduced us to many women of all ages and races who found themselves pregnant at an inopportune time. From the moment they found out they were carrying life inside their womb they struggled with how they would handle that child’s future. Although each mother would most like to raise their flesh and blood on their own that wasn’t always going to be the best choice for the baby. Therefore at times they chose adoption so that another couple could experience parenthood.

Oxygen created a web series “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Baby Vivienne” that is going to follow up with some of the families from Season 1. We’ll find out not only how the women who gave up their babies are doing but how the new families are doing too. My favorite episode from last season was episode 4, Brandalynn and Mercedes. Both of these women struggled hard about giving their baby up for adoption even though they really liked the families they chose as the forever parents.

Mercedes talks about knowing that even though she has agreed to give away her daughter to an amazing family; there is a difference between saying something and doing something. Her boyfriend’s family is quite concerned about the aftermath of the adoption and the emotions that are going to erupt and how it might affect Mercedes and Mikey’s relationship. Enough so that they call a family meeting and really talk through how important it is that they go through with the adoption, and how important it is that everyone talk about their feelings. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for the couple.

Brandalynn is dealing with an unsupportive mother. Pam doesn’t want Brandalynn to give up her daughter. Brandalynn already has one small child that they raise together and Pam believes that God gave this baby to them and they’ll raise this baby together as well. This creates a spiritual and emotional struggle for Brandalynn. We find out Pam almost gave Brandalynn up for adoption and it was very painful for her, she doesn’t want her daughter experiencing that pain as well.

Once Brandalynn gives birth to Sydney and she is handed off to Kim you can see how emotional it is for everyone. Kim and Brian get to experience the “first” moments as Brandalynn sits off to the side. When they hand her over to Brandalynn you can see the fear in their eyes, fearing she’ll want to keep Sydney. This must be the most terrifying feeling. But Brandalynn relinquishes her rights and says they’ll see her later, this will be an adoption where they may meet up again. Kim and Brian are so happy to complete their family. In the end we see that they see one another a lot and everyone involved is right where they should be. Brandalynn has a good job and has moved out of her mother’s house to live with Asher. Meanwhile Kim and Brian are floating on Cloud 9 with baby Sydney.

Mercedes and Mikey’s labor is a bit scarier, as Mercedes has a fever during the hard part. When Vivienne is born Pamela and Richard are not the first to hold her. Mercedes and Mikey go first and get very sad about the situation of handing her off. Second thoughts come flooding in. But in the long run they signed the papers and little Vivienne went home with her forever family and will see Mercedes and Mikey sometime in the future. In the end we find out that they also see each other a lot and Mercedes knows she made the right choice.

But what has happened since those small follow ups? Is Brandalynn doing okay without her mom’s constant help? Are Mercedes and Mikey still together? How are the babies doing with their forever families? All of these questions will be answered in the “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Baby” web series. You can watch “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Vivienne” here to catch up with Mercedes and Vivienne. I’m also giving away a $50 gift card to one lucky reader. I ask that you watch the below webisode entitled “I’m Having Their Baby: Raising Vivienne” and leave your comments. I’ll announce the winner in the second blog post on June 12.

The Winner is Sandy Van Houey!

    Janet W. says:

That is very respectable that Vivienne’s biological parents realized they weren’t ready to be parents. It’s wonderful to see Vivienne doing so well with her new adoptive family. I love that both families have a mutual respect for each other.

    Sandy VanHoey says:

Gosh, this is just so wonderful and brought tears to my eyes. I loved that they loved their baby enough to want her to have a better life and they are involved with the adoptive parents and also Vivienne will grow up knowing she was given up for adoption out of love for her and her biological parents remained a part of her life. I loved that Mercedes is in school and going to finish and have a career and will one day have a family with Mikey. They just all seem so happy which is so great for everyone involved.

  3. 3
    Stephanie Phelps says:

Oh my gosh that just makes me want to see more! I love that they follow them and how they want to give help to another family! This is so wonderful that they are still apart of her life and that they all get along so well!

    Mami2jcn says:

I like the fact that the bio parents and the adoptive parents stay in touch. That seems like the best scenario.

  5. 5
    Kelly D says:

I like that the bio mother has high ambitions to finish high school and go to college and that she is still able to be a part of the little girl’s life.

    Jessie C. says:

It is very nice to see the adoptive and biological families get along and involved in the baby’s life. You can’t ask better than this.

I like to see that baby is happy with her adoptive parents and that bio parents keep in touch with her

I love that both families are working together to do what is best for everyone, they genuinely seem to be happy and comfortable together. I expect lots of moments of courage and inspirational stories from watching the new season. It is fabulous to see truly selfless acts.

    Lisa Brown says:

It is great to see all parties are thoroughly happy and content with the decisions made. Mercedes and Micky had a very difficult decision to make, but they chose excellent adoptive parents, and do get to enjoy seeing their daughter on visits.

I think that is is the most incredible sacrifice to realize that you’re not in a position to do the best for your child. Certainly this shows what a painful decision this is. I’ glad that they seem to all be getting along now, but I worry that as Mercedes grows up and matures that she may regret this decision. It was really touching… and a show that I might watch in the future.

    meredith says:

I think adoption is such a great choice if you dont think you are able to care for your child. There are so many couples that want a baby and are unable to have one, its nice that this family has an open adoption – so there is a village raising vivienne

  13. 13
    Tammy S says:

I like how Pam said open adoption is a choice made out of love not because they didn’t love her. I think it’s great how they view Mikey & Mercedes as part of their family, it’s like their grown children coming home to visit.

  14. 14
    mrsshukra says:

The continued connection and communication between the birth and adoptive parents is amazing!

  15. 15
    Jennifer T. says:

It’s really brave of them to put Vivienne up for adoption. That’s got to be a tough decision. So glad that the adoptive family stays in touch with Vivienne’s “first” family.

  16. 16
    Kimberly Schotz says:

Our youngest daughter came into out family through a very open adoption. It’s nice to see how other families are doing.

  17. 17
    Tabathia B says:

I like that she made a grown up decision to give her baby up for adoption because she didn’t want to be a teenage mom and the adoptive parents have adopted before and that she doesn’t regret giving up her baby

Love This! So Touching To See Mother’s Make The Decision For Adoption, I Have Full Respect For These Mothers, And Love The Heart Felt Stories Of Their Journey!

  40. 40

I love that they realized they weren’t ready to take care of Vivienne and made such an incredible choice. I think it’s great that they are still involved in her life. His moustache makes me giggle (off topic). :)

  41. 41

The show looks great! I want to watch more now. But I’m still turned off by the title. As an adoptive mom, my children’s birth parents didn’t have “my” baby. They had their own baby and through circumstances, choice, and incredible loss placed them for adoption.

  42. 42
    Margaret Porter says:

I love that the adoptive and the biological parents can be close to the baby and love her.

  43. 43

This is an amazing show! But you need to get those tissues ready!

  44. 44

I can respect that Mercedes and Mikey were mature enough to realize they were too young to be parents and found a suitable family for their daughter. I know that had to be an incredibly hard decision. It’s nice to see they found a family to do an open adoption with so that they can still be apart of their daughter’s life. They actually expanded their family by their choice.

  45. 45
    Suzie Williams says:

I think this looks like an interesting show. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to make a decision like Mercedes is doing, but I applaud her for deciding to finish school and that they are planning on staying in touch.

  46. 46
    Christina Z says:

so much respect for everyone in involved.

  47. 47
    Marcia Goss says:

What a wonderful story! That lucky little girl now has 2 sets of parents who love her and only want what’s best for her.

  48. 48
    tina page says:

what a healthy, open-minded group of folks. that baby girl is lucky. :)

  49. 49

I have watched the show but I did not see this particular episode. Every story is unique and amazing and I usually end up in tears. I can not imagine having to make the decision to give up a child but think that these young women are incredibly strong to do so.
