Last week my senses were overcome by the fantastical new Magic Kingdom Festival of Fantasy Parade at Walt Disney World. I’ve lived in Central Florida since third grade and been here through many parades and this one is unlike any other I have seen. I remember 25 Years of Disney Magic, that one was so moving it made me cry, it seemed so special and was held during a special time in my life. But it was nowhere near as grande as Festival of Fantasy.
One of the things that makes Festival of Fantasy so over the top is the size. Some of the floats are as much as three stories high and I assure you they all look that tall from where you’ll be standing. This time around the parade will focus on both the Disney and Pixar films including characters such as Rapunzel from Tangled and Merida from Brave and of course Frozen and old favorites like Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty. I personally love Jiminy Cricket, he has always been a favorite and a hard to catch character and he makes an appearance in the parade!
The costumes are over the top in the best way ever. It took 10 costume houses in eight cities and 2 countries to pull this together. That’s a lot of people and a lot more work. Things had to be sculpted, hand curled, cut out, bedazzled, glued back on and the list just goes on and on. But the good part is that it shows while you are watching the parade. These are by far the best costumes we’ve seen, ever, in a Walt Disney World parade. Festival of Fantasy certainly lives up to its name.
And of course as I’m sure you’ve heard, Maleficent makes a fiery appearance. And by appearance I mean she rolls up as a Steampunk Metal Dragon that breathes fire. Breathes fire ya’ll. She is awesome. Prince Phillip is there to slay her but Aurora/Sleeping Beauty is nowhere to be seen which breaks my heart since she is my favorite (she gets to sleep all the time and no one judges her for it).
Basically you just need to get out to Walt Disney World to check out this amazing parade. But until you can do this, you can gaze longingly at a Magic Kingdom Festival of Fantasy Parade artwork that I’m giving away! Now I apologize that this isn’t the best picture but I really didn’t want to touch it too much or get my finger oils on it. But this is a gorgeous card stock poster piece of art received from Disney at the media event and I know you’ll just love it. Not gonna lie, I don’t really know the technical terms of what it is, but it’s really pretty, has a water color like work to it and it’s on heavy card stock paper so seems like it would last a very long time if treated properly. *I was invited into Disney complimentary to view the parade. All the opinions are my own. Jiminy Cricket is a legend. Seriously, he’s your conscience so listen closely when he tells you that disclosing for every little thing isn’t necessary.
*Contest is open to US Residents only. Ends on April 17th at 12:00 AM. Winner has 48 hours to claim prize.
