I travel a lot and sometimes and that can really put a kink in keeping in touch with loved ones. My father is a huge fan of the video call. Instead of just picking up the phone and saying “Hello” he always wants to Skype. Or to be exact he says “Let’s do a video” or “When can we do a video?” He really lives for these Skype video calls.
Sometimes I worry that if I’m away from my Mac too long on a business trip he’ll grow lonely and lose the will to go on another day. Okay, maybe that is a stretch but truly they are the highlight of his week. When Skype asked me to find a service I had never tried before and give it a test run I immediately looked into their Skype Wifi Hotspot because it gave me the ability to video chat with my father from anywhere in the world. I thought it would be especially great to practice using for the upcoming Father’s Day Holiday!
All I had to do was purchase Skype credits which was pretty straight forward. Skype allowed me to pay using Paypal which is a sure fire way to get me to use a service and that took less than 2 minutes. An email was sent to me with a confirmation and the credits were put into my Skype account to be used as I saw fit.
Now whenever I want to jump on a Skype video with Dad I simply search for an available Wifi network, sign in and it begins charging me by the minute. The quicker the call the less credits are used, the longer the call the more credits are used. The connection is clear and I can use my laptop or my tablet, just as long as it has a camera! Now everyone reading this knows that there is absolutely no excuse to tell Dad you were too busy to get in touch with him on Father’s Day, Skype has you covered in more ways than one.
I’m not the only busy mom out there by the way, check out this infographic about other busy moms and how they feel about technology!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Skype. I received Skype credits to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
