I recently took a road trip with my family. To say I felt cooped up in my car would be the understatement of the century. I don’t think we had a Purolator cabin air filter, which basically keeps all the outside grossness from getting inside the car and into your sinuses. However we never rolled down the windows because then my hair would be all in my face and that is a complete nightmare. So suffice it to say next time, though honestly I’m never doing this again, I’ll get a Purolator.
Road trips can be fun I’m sure, maybe in college with your buddies. But as the mom of two young boys it’s just a nightmare. I heard the word “tooting” a bajillion times, someone always wanted whatever I had even if it was the shirt off my back. I mean that literally as once I had to take off my cardigan because Spencer wanted a blanket. And my friend Brittany said it was my own fault that I only brought a pillow for myself because that certainly didn’t work out in my favor and the boys fought over it the entire trip. She says I “had it coming”.
But at the end of the trip I did have some cute memories. I never check on the kids when they sleep because they are upstairs and we are downstairs. During this trip I was able to watch them drift off and sleep in the car. They are sure cute when they are unconscious. We played a few short car games and had a few laughs at road side Americana. These are memories we’ll have forever.
My road trip tips would be to try really hard to take things with a grain of salt. If you have to give up the shirt off your back, your pillow, your portable DVD player and your candy bar that you had been waiting days to eat, just remember how much the memories will mean years down the road.
