When I stayed at the Rosen Shingle Creek a few months ago I had plenty of chances to enjoy meals in their many restaurants. One of which is now my favorite local Orlando Mexican joint. I can honestly say I wasn’t disappointed with any of the food we ate and we ate a lot of food. Whether it be Sushi, Mexican, American, Italian or just about anything else you’ll find what you are looking for while relaxing at Rosen Shingle Creek.
I’ll start off with my favorite restaurant of the group which is called Mi Casa Tequila Taqueria. This small Mexican place is heavy on charm and even heavier on delicious food. You can order Lima Guacamole which is made right at your table. My favorite part though were the Mi Casa Quesadillas that included fruit. This sounds weird I realize but they tasted amazing. The menu is made up of actual dishes prepared in Mexico so you won’t find quite as many old standards that you are used to. But if you are willing to branch out a bit you will find something just right. My husband loved this restaurant and so did both of my kids. Although they don’t advertise a kid’s menu if you ask they do have a few choices for children at lower prices. I consider this one of the best Mexican restaurants in Central Florida.
After one night of eating a lot of heavier food I really needed something fresh. I told my husband and kids I was going to run over to Banrai Sushi and order 2 rolls and I’d meet them back in the room. My husband doesn’t eat sushi so I didn’t have the chance to eat in the actual restaurant but I will tell you it is set up a bit more lounge style. They do have tables and servers but it seems more open. Banrai is only open in the evenings from 5PM-10PM so lunch sushi is not an option. I was boring and just ordered two Atlantic rolls, but the sushi chef was happy to make an adjustment for me so that is usually a great sign. My rolls were delicious and filled me up. They have a lot of unique rolls including the Shingle Creek Roll which includes Gator. I must try that next time I visit.
18 Monroe Market Street is the place to take the kids when they are craving pizza. My kids wanted to eat here twice a day every day we were visiting the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. This is a walk up and order at the window type of place and then you can find a seat and enjoy your meal. 18 Monroe Street is actually the name of the street Harris Rosen, my personal hero and hotel owner, grew up on in New York. The restaurant is placed inside a market that reminds you of Whole Foods where you can purchase just about anything you could possibly need on a vacation. Subs, Pizza, Salads, Wraps and much more will satisfy your appetite morning, noon and night.
One of the bigger restaurants in the resort is Cafe Osceola where you’ll find both a buffet or the chance to order off the menu. You’ll see a lot of Native American names on the menu as they are taken straight out of Florida. Things like the Muskogee Baked Flat Bread or Ch echo lo Cobb Salad definitely stuck out. We chose the buffet which was a great choice. Food from all different walks of life was offered up on a long buffet line including large shrimp, hearty beef cut right from the bone, different types of pastas and rice and of course plenty of salad. I’m not always a big fan of buffets because I think the food is “as good as buffet food can be” but this food was tasty. I went back 3 times. I didn’t pack my plate so don’t judge me. Once I was finished there were numerous delicious desserts to try out as well. Check out that Pineapple Upside Down Cake!
There are still more restaurants to enjoy while at Rosen Shingle Creek. A Land Remembered which is a city favorite every year is located here as is Cala Bella, another can’t miss treat. I was disappointed we didn’t get to try Tobias Flats because their menu full of flat bread pizzas sounded mouth watering. I guess it’s another reason to visit again in the future. And by the way, if you do visit just to eat, most restaurants will validate self service parking. I’d call and ask before coming but two manager did confirm this for me.
