Starfrit USA is a kitchen gadget and cookware company which provides both fun and eco friendly options for your lifestyle. When Starfrit contacted me to provide a review on their products I was sure I’d enjoy it because I had been needing a new frying pan for a while. They sent me an Alternative frying pan and a Securimax can opener to review as well.
The Alternative frying pan created an entirely new cooking experience for me. I’ve been using the same cheap pots and pans for 10 years. I was delighted to find how easy cooking can be with a pan that sits flat on the stove top. Most of mine totter just slightly enough to make it hard to cook evenly. The Alternative is an eco friendly frying pan made of 100% ceramic powder. It is also made of 99% recycled aluminum. Another thing I loved was the easy of cleaning. Because of the non stick surface I was able to simply wipe the pan clean with a dish towel. I didn’t have to s
oak it and scrub like so many of my other pans.
I also received the Securimax can opener. I had a bit of trouble figuring this one out but read why. The problem with the Securimax is that it works so well, you don’t feel like it is working. Both my mom and my husband used it and said, “I don’t think this thing is working” but then with out fail the lid came right off each time.To use this hand held can opener you simply set it on top of the can and begin turning the knob. Once you’ve made it all the way around turn the knob the other way to release. Then there is this neat claw that can remove the lid for you. The Securimax leaves no sharp edges on either the can or the lid.
For Christmas I’m asking for more Alternative pans. I love them. I highly recommend you give them a try if you are in the market for new cookware. Both eco friendly and functional, you can’t go wrong. The Securimax can opener works better than any other hand held can opener I have ever tried. It would make a great stocking stuffer!
Right now the nice people at StarfritUSA would like to offer an Alternative pan to one lucky reader. To enter follow the directions below and be sure to leave an email so I can contact you if you win.

My cooking disaster was on our 10th wedding anniversary. Hubby was working overtime so I decided to make his favorite fried chicken. I forgot something and had to run to the store, and while checking out I told my son, I think I forgot to turn the stove off. We rushed home, he had a learners permit and I told him to just floor it, we were just down the road a bit not far from home. I get home and my smoke alarms were going off, my ceiling was on fire, I am screaming to get out of the house, i run next door to call 911 and by the time they got there the son had already put the ceiling and oven vent fire out. we had over 25k in damages, when hubby got there we just hugged and wished each other a happy anniversary, we are going on 27 year this march.

my funny kitchen story is simply using the wrong ingredients. like salt instead of sugar in cookies. or baking soda instead of baking powder. i have a hard time focusing on recipes and get distracted easily. and that is not a good thing in the kitchen

i say try the potato chipper, or the Stand Up Grader. i got one of those cowbell shaped grader at the local WholePaycheck for $28 it was nice, since it had a rubber gasket on the bottom which attached a little tupperware container for your gradables to land in, then you cover it and viola! worked great for like a month then the rubber gasket stopped staying on, and the bottom of the grader started to rust. RUST! wtf… damn organic metal..

My cooking disaster:
Every Christmas I'm in charge of making 7-Layer Jello Salad for the family dinner. It takes an entire day to make it and one of the key ingredients is sour cream. I went to the store a few days before but noticed a container of sour cream already in the refrigerator so I didn't buy any more. Christmas Eve day I started to make the jello and grabbed the sour cream..it felt heavy. I opened it up to find last week's chili in the recycled sour cream container. Try finding a store open on Christmas Eve that isn't jam-packed.

One time I tried to make a strawberry pie. The recipe use gelatin to firm the pie up. Well I didn't realize you had to boil the gelatin and dissolve it completely for it to work. I ended up with a runny pie with jelly clumps in it. Still tasted good though!
