Walking in a winter wonderland…unfortunately here in Central Florida we don’t get to experience such a thing. We walk in a sauna filled with wilting Holiday decorations. Honestly, the Holidays just aren’t the same without all the bundling and the cold. I guess someone tipped off the Gaylord Palms Hotel so they thought up a way to simulate the fun of Snow and Ice, if only for a short period of time. This year the attraction is focused around children with Dreamworks Pictures Shrek The Hall Ice! and Kung Fu Panda Awesome Snow! as the theme.
As you walk into Ice! you are handed a heavy parka style coat since it is only 9 degrees inside. Throughout the attraction you will see hand carved ice sculptures from the hit television special Shrek The Halls. The sculptures are even dyed in colors and equipped with sound which I thought was a really neat touch. As you walk through the story there are some ice luge slides that both kids and adults can take part in speeding down. We had a blast and each went at least 3 times. When the story has been completed you’ll get to see some traditional Ice! scenes such as the Nativity. This is the way Ice used to be before they had a theme. The entire experience takes about half an hour.
We were then treated to a very unique experience in Florida, Kung Fu Panda Awesome Snow. When you walk into the Snow room it looks a bit like a huge playground, only there is 3 feet of snow on the ground to play in. So maybe where you live it isn’t unique, but this attraction definitely appeals to the locals. The 64 foot Pagoda slides are the biggest draw and I recommend you get in line right away, as it can become a very long wait later in the experience. Spencer loved making snow balls and throwing them at the evil characters from Kung Fu Panda such as Tai Lung and Lord Shen. An employee had a snowball maker and that made it even better. The tunnels can get very slippery and Spencer was not a fan, he slipped and slid and wanted out right away. Keep that in mind for your little ones.
Our family got the most fun out of Kung Fu Panda Awesome Snow! because it was something we don’t get to do every day. Ice! was beautiful and best suited for school age children rather than toddlers or preschool age kids. The best thing would be to buy tickets to both which you can do by clicking Dreamworks Christmas Experience.
