When I was a young girl in Junior high school I remember coming home on Valentine’s day with an abundance of Valentine’s gifts. One of my friends had to actually ride the bus home with me just to help me carry all the flowers, balloons and stuffed animals. Apparently I was quite popular and this was most likely the day I realized it. From that day on I knew Valentine’s Day was something special, a day to profess your love to that special someone and hoped that they felt the same.
Now things are different, I’m married and I have 2 small children and the romance has faded a bit. My husband and I usually forget to celebrate Valentine’s Day or we don’t want to worry about getting a sitter. My days of playing Juliet are long gone. I realize however that this isn’t the right wa
y to be, we should still be recognizing one another on this special day. I’d love to receive Valentine’s Flowers every few years, especially red roses.
This year I vow to make a change in the way I celebrate Valentine’s Day. My husband will receive some sort of gift, even if it isn’t exactly romantic. Something that says “You are really special to me, never forget how much I love you.”
Hopefully he sees this blog post so he isn’t left out of the decision, meaning of course it would actually be me left out. This has happened before as well on our Wedding anniversary, one year he forgot and one year I forgot. It was traumatizing at the time but now we look back on it and laugh. But like I said above, we should work a little harder on these things.
