How to Save Money in Vegas
Every travel lover has to make at least one trip to Las Vegas. This is the one American city, synonymous with shows, bright lights, fun and of courser, gambling. While most people believe only gamblers want to go here, in reality, even people that don’t gamble enjoy visiting this city, as there are some spectacular shows, night clubs, and wonderful restaurants to enjoy too.
However, when traveling on a budget you want to find as many ways as possible to save money, so it pays, to plan your trip a little more thoroughly and look for tips that can make your trip less expensive.
Lodgings
Book your lodgings directly through the hotel to get the best deals. For instance, the Caesar’s Palace has special deals, discounts and nightly stays that are less expensive than a regular rate. Look for different package deals to find the one you want. If you are really on a budget, then you might want to consider lodgings away from the strip, or consider staying with friends; you might even want to look on Couch Surfing to find someone who has an extra bedroom or couch for you to stay on.
Transportation
If you stay on the strip, then consider sight seeing by bus. Buses drive up and down the strip continually. However, you’ll want to leave your hotel with plenty of time to spare as buses are often over full. You might want to consider a budget car rental, especially if you are staying somewhere off the strip. Renting a car only costs about $20 to $30 per day if you find the right deal.
Food
Consider eating your heaviest meal at lunch time, as most of the hotels offer the same buffet in the daytime as they do at night. Then you can simply go for lighter fare in the evening and enjoy the hotel continental breakfast (if available).
Shows
Ask the front-desk personnel or the concierge for coupons or discount booklets. Ask if there are any complimentary or inexpensive shows. Many of the casinos offer free entertainment at various times during the day. Just take note of the schedule. Take the time to review the coupon or discount booklets, as there are always deals in Vegas you only have to sit and find the coupons you want.
Gambling
If you do decide to play the slot machines or the tables set a budget for yourself. Be sure to take the free tutorials offered by the casinos so you know what you are doing. If you lose your budget don’t continue to gamble or you could lose all of your vacation money. While your in the casino be sure to enjoy the free drinks so you don’t have to pay for them somewhere else – just be sure to tip your wait person.
Cash
If you run out of cash ask for directions to an ATM machine outside the casino. Those that are placed in the casinos often have $5 transaction fee charges.
Remember, the point of the trip is to have fun, so go sightseeing, enjoy the lights and participate in as many free activities as you can. There is a ton of free entertainment in Vegas, the Caesars Palace, and any of the other casinos and hotels.
