I can’t imagine a Tampa hotel with a more beautiful view than the Aloft Tampa Downtown Hotel. It hangs over the bay with views of the Riverwalk and the historic University of Tampa. It’s what one would call a boutique hotel and I’m going to tell you why.
The Aloft Tampa Lobby
When you arrive at Aloft Tampa you’re greeted by some decoupage mannequins who are very happy to meet you. This both made me uncomfortable and delighted. I was torn on which. The remainder of the lobby pretty much stayed in step with the mannequins and provided a most hallucinatory experience. Pop art on the walls, and metal palm fronds in vases in case you get too warm. Some of the seating was typical couch and chair style and some required deep thought and coordination. Will I be able to balance on this chair or will I fall to a horrible death? This downtown Tampa hotel is cooler than I could ever be and now you’ll have to find out if it’s cooler than you. Click on the pictures to enlarge.
The Aloft Tampa Amenities
There are no restaurants in the Aloft Tampa but they do have Re:fuel by Aloft which is a kitchen like area of the lobby where you can purchase “to-go” snacks, boxed meals and fancy non alcoholic drinks (cappuccino hello). I grabbed a piece of fruit and a protein bar. I wanted it to be a candy bar and another candy bar. But if you saw the people sitting around the Splash Pool you would have grabbed healthy food too. It’s absolutely the place to see and be seen if you live in the Downtown Tampa area. Put on a bikini, have a martini and play a game of pool as you take in some rays.
The Aloft Tampa Rooms
Once you make it up to your room you’ll need a moment to take in the Alice in Wonderland design. What I mean is they’re tiny. Luckily Tim and I lived in NYC and were used to 200sq ft of living space. In all fairness you don’t need much more space in a hotel room when it is just the two of you. They offered a desk, bench seat, king bed, closet and regular sized bathroom. The room itself was beautiful and the bed a cushion of heaven. Don’t concentrate too long on the pillows because they are people. Not the pillow itself, but the pixelated design found staring at you from across the room. Sneaky I tell ya, don’t look too close but don’t look away. You’ve been warned.
The shower contains Bliss Spa amenities if you choose to leave yours at home like I do for short trips. The shower was heavenly by the way as were the towels. Everything was copacetic in there.
The Aloft Tampa Extras
This downtown Tampa hotel is the ultimate experience for a couples getaway though I’d probably recommend leaving the kids at home. In case that’s not in the cards, they do have a kid’s program called Camp Aloft, so be sure and check it out. If you can’t stand to leave your dog at home they have the Arf Program free to all guests. But be aware, if Fido takes up more than a quarter of the bed, call ahead, you’ll have special paperwork waiting for you. Dogs 40lbs and up need a waiver.
Aloft Tampa Downtown Hotel was far more swanky than I can pull off but I enjoyed pretending I fit in for one day. My jean shorts and hair scrunchie screamed otherwise but the staff treated me just like anyone else. They’ll be excited to meet you too so hurry up and make a reservation. You don’t want to miss the most beautiful view in Tampa bay.
* I received a night in the hotel to tell you all about it. These opinions are my own.
