Barefoot In Sand
Spencer at times can be my spirit animal, and he is quite the animal. Today was one of those days. We drove to Satellite Beach so Tim could try out his new metal detector, his much coveted Christmas gift. We didn’t bring bathing suits because the water is quite chilly, certainly not swimming water. It’s even less swimming water when you are born and raised in Florida.
However as soon as we closed in on that water Spencer couldn’t stand it. First he took off his shoes and socks and just put his toes in the sand. Next he walked towards the water, while I shouted to him that it was far too cold and he’d regret the decision. He was timid, but the surf gobbled up his feet faster than he had time to give it a second thought. His eyes became as wide as saucers and his mouth fell open in shock. Yeah, that water was icy.
But now he knew that once he had a toe in the water the worst was over. Of course, without even asking he rips off his shirt and goes running into the ocean. I’m shouting his name “Spencer, Spencer William!” and then I realize, what is the worst that will happen? Barring a shark attack he might catch a cold, if that isn’t an old wives tale of course. He won’t catch hypothermia because it isn’t that cold.
Spencer was seizing the day. Carpe Diem. He is ready for 2017 so he can start barefoot in the sand, face towards the sky. That’s Spencer. Mainly because he never considers consequences but that’s not the point. Today everyone should take a lesson from Spencer and start anew.
So tell me, what is your New Years Resolution? What do you want to do different this year? Or what are you hoping to see change for the better? Please comment and let me know and maybe I can learn from you as well. Carpe Diem Every Single Day 2017.
