Going On A Diet With Jennifer Lawrence
I mentioned I was going to be doing the Advocare 24 Day Challenge that my girlfriend Lisa distributes. I ended up postponing it until after my Universal Orlando press trip so I just now finished it up. It was a long 10 days and I’m not going to sugar coat it (I miss sugar). I thought I’d tell you about going on a diet with Jennifer Lawrence my favorite Hollywood girlfriend.
During the cleanse you have to cut out the bad carbs (actually the good carbs like potatoes which turn into fries and chips and spaghetti and lots of other stuff like dairy and red meat) and don’t get me started on sugar. So it’s definitely a big change from the normal routine.
First thing in the morning 30 minutes before breakfast you drink water with this powder called Spark. It has vitamins and minerals and gives you energy for whatever your day may bring, like impromptu (totally promptu) dance sessions in your living room. Spark comes in many different flavors but my favorite is cherry.
30 minutes later you can have a breakfast of your choice. You get a protein, fruit and a complex carb. For example maybe you’d have a hard boiled egg, some steel cut oatmeal and a plum.
On certain days you’ll have a Fiber drink which is disgusting. Lisa likes it so she and I didn’t see eye to eye on this. But seriously, she’s the only one so I ignored her. There are two flavors, Citrus and Peaches n’ Cream. Get the Peaches n’ Cream. It is much less gag worthy. Basically it’s sawdust that turns into gel and it will make you gag, I’m not just saying that, look at Jen above, she hates it too. On the second day the last gulp didn’t make it down my throat. Your best bet is to get a blender bottle, use a bit less water than they recommend, add 1/4 of a flavor of Spark you like, shake shake shake, pour into a glass and take it down in 3 huge gulps. Then take a few drinks of cold water (like a chaser). That’s my advice, take it for what it is worth.
On other days you will take a Probiotic pill instead of the Fiber drink. Those days are better days so look forward to those.
However, the last few days on the cleanse you take both the Fiber drink and the Probiotic together and it made me feel awful. At least I think that is what was wrong. I felt nauseous, gassy, poopy and just all over gross. Tim was on a business trip these days and I was seriously a tiny bit worried to take Jason to karate lessons lest I embarrass myself in front of the class.
For a snack before lunch you should probably choose a piece of fruit or something else clean such as a few raw almonds or an avocado (I could live on avocado). You are also advised to have another Spark drink.
Once lunch rolls around, oh wait that’s right, I sucked at lunch. This was the hardest part of the cleanse for me. I never eat lunch. I eat a huge breakfast and then skip lunch so getting back into the swing of lunch was next to impossible. For lunch you should eat a protein, vegetable and a complex carb. So an example would be some tuna fish mixed into a leafy green salad with some red beans mixed in as well. Obviously there are a lot of possibilities but I’m not going to go into much detail because I failed this part of the cleanse. The metabolism aspect probably really crashed and burned because of this.
Of course there is another snack before dinner and as I mentioned before, eat clean and make it healthy. They don’t recommend a Spark at this point because it will keep you awake but if that doesn’t bother you, people choose to use Spark at any point in the day.
Dinner was easier for me because I cook dinner more often than not. I had fun with this, it was my big meal and I looked forward to it! Ground turkey is excellent on this cleanse so three times I made a ground turkey taco type of meal for the whole family which included black beans, 3 different types of bell peppers and a lot of taco seasoning for them (but just a dash for me in a separate pan). They had white rice and soft tortillas and I just ate the meat and veggies which was fine with me. Other nights I was usually happy with skinless boneless chicken breast and coconut oil. I live for coconut oil, or other spices. If you haven’t tried it you really should. It’s highly recommended for cooking on this challenge. After you eat dinner you take two moderately large (does that make sense) gel capsules called Omegaplex which is an Omega 3 Fatty Acids supplement.
You can have an after dinner snack as well. I often did celery sticks and oil free hummus. I also drank glasses of V8 because I have a really hard time getting enough vegetables in my system. Even when I think I’m eating enough it ends up being nowhere near enough. And no, unfortunately Jennifer, we can’t eat the fancy popcorn, no matter how hard we worked for it.
Two super yummy “dessert” ideas I used were taking a peach and cutting it up, tossing it in a pan with water, some cinnamon spice and pumpkin spice and letting it simmer over the burner. Once it gets soft you have a delicious treat. Another one was just cut up a banana and add a spoonful of all natural peanut butter (it needs to be all natural). If you freeze the banana it almost tastes like a sundae. But I said almost so don’t get too excited.
That right there is the cleanse. I’m not going to lie and tell you it was easy. You really need to plan ahead for this which I didn’t do. I thought I did, but I was wrong. I was really hungry during the majority of the cleanse. People kept saying it was mind over matter, apparently my mind was starving. The main reason was I didn’t have meals prepared. You need to do a lot of cooking or preparing and I wasn’t ready. Or you needed to eat a lot of raw veggies which I don’t like. And sitting and eating a bowl of green beans hot seems gross.
Other than sucking at eating lunch I did complete the entire thing with only one day of cheating and it wasn’t even on purpose. I went out for dinner thinking I was ordering something safe which ended up not being safe. That said, it still wasn’t awful. During the cleanse I lost 4lbs. I wasn’t overly concerned about weight loss though so I’m not disappointed. The absolute most important thing to remember is DRINK WATER. You should be getting half your weight. If this comes out to be less than 100oz I recommend just doing 100oz. This can include your Spark which is going to provide you with a bunch of nutrients since you are going to keep peeing.
This challenge is the new “In” thing and everyone is doing it. Your hairdresser, your bag boy at Publix, your neighbor, your best friend’s mom. So if you want to buy Advocare products Lisa sells them and she’s really nice and not even slightly pushy like I had mentioned in my previous post. And no, she doesn’t give me my stuff for free. I just like to write about all this because I also love reading about it. I sit around and Google Advocare stuff when I get bored. It’s fun! But remember, love yourself for who you are. Because if you don’t, who will?
