An ongoing fight in my marriage is that I want to keep the light on while I read. I have eliminated this argument with the Kindle Paperwhite E-reader which has a built in adjustable light. Kindle is an electronic reader by Amazon which has the ability to hold thousands of books. The entire family is able to use the Paperwhite 3g as long as we learn how to take turns and share. Easier said than done.
Not only do I love my adjustable light but I love how lightweight this Kindle is. The Kindle Paperwhite weighs only 7oz. When I traveled to Chicago recently it was so nice without a computer or a hard back book in my carry on. I can also choose my own font from just about 10 choices. I enjoy fun little options like this. I’m also able to touch a word and find out the meaning. Recently while reading something with more of a British vocabulary I was able to learn something new.
Kindle PaperWhite Reading Options
I read a lot, sometimes up to 10 books a month so knowing that Amazon has options like Goodreads, Kindle Unlimited, Kindle First and Kindle Lending Library are so helpful.
Goodreads-I can keep up with what my friends are reading with Goodreads. This way when I’m done with a book I’m able to choose another quite easily. Or find out if a book I’ve been looking at might not be for me. A lot of my friends love leaving book reviews and I could get lost in those for hours at a time.
Kindle First-I am a Prime member so I have already had the chance to choose 2 free books (one per month August and September) for Kindle First. This is where Prime gives you a handful of books to choose from that have not been released to the general public. My Kindle Paperwhite is ultra portable and I can carry these books anywhere I go, even in a small purse.
Kindle Unlimited-If you read non stop Kindle Unlimited could be a good option for you. For just $9.99 a month you can choose from thousands of books included in this subscription. I decided against the service because the big publishers are not included, most are Amazon Kindle authors and while they are usually wonderful, I’m fine paying as I go.
Kindle Owner’s Lending Library-This is another Prime option where you can borrow one book a month from their library. Again, these are mostly the Amazon Kindle authors. They’ve kept me entertained. 🙂
Saving Money With Kindle Paperwhite
Books are much less expensive on the Kindle Paperwhite, even major publisher’s books. Sometimes up to half off which I much appreciate. I am looking forward to starting The Girl On the Train which is about $5 less than a hardback book. Also the Kindle authors are as low as .99 per book.
The only issues I have had with the Kindle Paperwhite is the touchscreen, I believe it could be more responsive. Also charging the Paperwhite. It is said you can charge the Paperwhite and it will last weeks. I have not had this happen, more like a few days. Maybe I just read far more than the average person. I went to Chicago for 4 days and was sure to bring the charger. It didn’t die by any means but it worried me to get on the plane without charging it one last time.
The Kindle Paperwhite has become an attachment of my body. I bring it in the car to read in parking lots while waiting for the kids, I bring it to meetings while waiting for people to show up. But mostly I read at home and I get to read at night in bed with no lights on. Because the Kindle Paperwhite has 4 LED lights inside that keep me in the light and leave Tim in the dark. And that is worth $119.99.
*I received a Kindle Paperwhite for review. It was completely my pleasure.
