Every year those of us who like to spend our free time indoors basking in the glow of our television sets are blessed with a handful of new shows. Some will pique our interest and some will smell foul straight out of the gate. So I’m wondering, have you invested time in any new television shows for 2018? Below are three new shows I’ll be trying out and why. Please feel free to share your own new favorites or opinions on mine!
Splitting Up Together
ABC’s new rom-com; Lena and Martin were once madly in love. But, like many marriages, time and circumstance eventually took their toll, and they decide that everyone’s lives would be better if they got a divorce. Facing a daunting real estate market, the couple decide not to sell their house and to “Bird Nest” instead. The ‘on-duty’ parent will live in the house while the ‘off-duty’ parent will live in the detached garage. As Lena begins to dip her toes into the dating waters, Martin begins to see his own culpability in his marriage falling apart.
I mean who doesn’t LOVE Jenna Fischer? She is one of those actresses who has unfortunately been cast into a box and that box is labeled Pam. I for one am excited to see what she can do outside of The Office and Splitting Up Together is the perfect chance. Oliver Hudson is also a favorite of mine. I once spent hours with him, interviewed him and never realized he was related to, well, his entire family. I still feel stupid about that to this day. But he was such a lovely host on the set of his previous show Rules of Engagement and treated me with such respect that I swore to support him in any future role. Airing Tuesdays at 9:30pm EST on ABC.
NBC’s new family sitcom about a family unlike most you know; Brothers Vince and Matthew are living every single man’s dream. They own the fifth largest gym in Brooklyn, N.Y., date an endless string of beautiful women and share a bachelor pad in fraternal bliss. But their simple life gets complicated fast when Vince’s high school fling Priya surprises him with Michael, their fabulous and feisty 15-year-old son with big city dreams. As Michael plots his rise to fame, fitness-obsessed Vince and Matthew must now work out how to be a strong and supportive family.
I’m currently raising a son who has Hollywood aspirations. He is a handful but so much fun. We enjoy watching shows which highlight the creative side of children. Champions also includes some not always appropriate humor so I have to keep an eye on it but so far the NBC comedy has been a lot of fun. Andy Favreau is fantastic as the lead character’s lovable but simple-minded brother and young boy’s Uncle Matthew and he keeps me coming back each week. J.J. Totah stars as 15-year-old Michael, out and proud and in a strange place but making the most of it. At the end of each episode, you are left asking yourself who is really raising who. Plus, Mindy Kaling just has a power over intelligent women that makes you want to support her projects. Champions is on NBC at 9:30 pm EST.
For The People
ABC’s new Shondaland courtroom dramedy; Six talented young lawyers work on opposite sides of the law handling the most high-profile and high-stakes federal cases in the country. In the new Shondaland series show, these young lawyers will be put to the test both personally and professionally as their lives intersect in and out of America’s most prestigious trial court, a.k.a. “The Mother Court.”
This show is hard for me because I don’t watch any Shondaland shows. I’m just not a fan of nighttime soap operas. However, I love Britt Robertson so much it is part of the fibers of my being. I’ve loved her for about 10 years and I think she is one of the most talented actresses of today. So how can I ignore her new big series? I can’t and I won’t, so I’ve told myself to buckle up because from what I’ve been told the ride is fierce and turns into quite an obsession. Hopefully, this will be a really big break for her ala Ellen Pompeo. Certainly, she’s not tired of hearing this. I’ve given the show an episode and I feel it might be a bit miscast. Not Britt but some of the other characters. But probably they’ll all start being killed off because you know…Shonda Rhimes. For The People is on ABC Tuesday 10pm EST.
New Television Shows For 2018
There are many other shows I want to try out like Krypton, Roseanne and Rise (I’ve actually tried all of them and can’t wait to tell you my strong opinions) but decided to narrow it down to these three today. Have you tried these out, opinions?
