Yesterday I treated Spencer to a surprise performance of The Illusionists at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. As you all know Spencer loves him some magic and since I’ve worked hand in hand with The Magic Castle on numerous occasions it was the perfect evening. Although Hurricane Matthew is blowing its way through Orlando all performances are scheduled because the show must go on.
The Illusionists are a group of completely different but equally as talented magicians that come together to perform this fascinating show. There are many but here is who we saw last night:
The Illusionists’ Cast of Magicians
Jeff Hobson: The Trickster. He’s the master of ceremonies and quick with his hands. Never take your eyes off him because you could be his next target.
Dan Sperry: The Anti-Conjuror. Gross magic? No but really there is so much more to him but this is part of it. He makes things disappear and appear and he does it in a way you’ve never seen. He’s also personable in the strangest way.
Kevin James: The Inventor. Saw a woman in half right? That’s Kevin. But he doesn’t saw a woman in half, he does so much more and it’s not even a woman. But you get the point. I enjoyed him so very much.
Ben Blaque: The Weapon Master. He scared Spencer. He has a bow and arrow and could possibly be cooler than Hawkeye. But lets not get cocky. His assistant still has both of her eyes a nose and beautiful smile. This is important in his act because at any moment she could lose them. Wow, he’s fantastic!
Colin Cloud: The Deductionist. Remember that show Lie To Me? That’s Colin. He does mind games and he knows what you are thinking. He actually studied this in college so it isn’t as much magic as it is science. But I guess a lot of it is. You’ll be floored when he is able to read the minds of entire crowds of people. Also he’s really cute.
Yu-Ho Jin: The Manipulator. Card tricks. But so much more than “card tricks”. He’s the “Now you see it now you don’t” guy. Up-close magic. He’s won some huge awards and while he works his magic you’re like “No, no way, nuh uh!!” He’s that magician.
Andrew Basso: The Escapologist. He scared me. He did the Houdini water box escape and while I knew he had it under control I still got nervous. For many that’s half the fun but not for me. So basically this guy is death defying and you can’t miss him.
Are The Illusionsts Worth The Ticket Price?
No matter where you live if The Illusionists are coming to your town you need to purchase tickets. And I recommend Illusionist tickets close to the stage as well. A lot happens near that stage. Obviously I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the world of magic so maybe I’m biased, but I would travel to see this show again. You should travel to your nearest town to see them as well.
*I received 2 tickets so Spencer and I could check out The Illusionists. It was magical 😉
